As part of methane importation scheme, two liquid methane carriers have been built, each ship having methane capacity of 12,200 tons, service speed of 17.25 knots and steam turbine propulsion machinery developing 12,500 shp; ships load at Arzew in Algeria and unload at Gas Council's methane terminal at Canvey Island, Essex, which has total storage capacity of 22,000 tons; Methane Princess was built by Vickers-Armstrongs (Shipbuilders) Ltd, while Methane Progress is from yard of Harland and Wolff Ltd; ship length oa is 618 ft, breadth 81 ft 6 in., depth 58 ft 6 in., draft 26 ft.
