Tanker of 89,000 tons dw on summer draft has been delivered by Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson; length bp 815 ft, breadth molded 125 ft, depth molded 62 ft; two longitudinal and six transverse bulkheads subdivide cargo space into 21 wing and center tanks of which one wing tank port and starboard is reserved for water ballast; explosion risk is nullified and cargo tank corrosion reduced to minimum by inert gas system; normal output of Wallsend/Pametrada geared turbine installation is 26,500 shp at 105 rpm for service speed of 16 1/4 knots; 17.8 knots was attained on Arran mile in trials.
