Despite prewar predictions that railroads would be unable to handle traffic necessary to war effort, record shows that they have met tests and continue to accomplish the impossible; future demands for economical mass movement of shipments will sustain railroads in leading transportation position; improvements in track and rolling stock have taken place in recent years and will continue.
