Brown Boveri marine gas turbine installation for representative cargo ship of 6000 shp described; layout uses two turbines, one combustion chamber, and 2-stage compression with interstage cooling; one turbine drives compressor while other drives propeller through double reduction gearing; recuperator is relatively small, being of 15,500 sq ft heat exchanger surface area, i.e., 26 sq ft per shp, but fuel consumption of 0.57 lb shp per hr is anticipated.
