Author's opinion on state of development of submarines; details are of German submarine U776 which has Krupp supercharged machinery; in vessel, external ballast tanks can be blown by exhaust gases from main engines, thereby saving installation of low pressure blower; Schnorkel tube used for underwater operation of Diesel engines; vessel has length of 225 ft, and breadth 25 ft; illustrations given.
