London Midland and Scottish Railway have been experimenting with new appliances to meet present-day conditions, and as result have introduced for use at Heysham adjustable gear which is capable of dealing with four or six-wheeled vehicles having wheelbase up to 20 ft. 6 in., with weight of 10 tons and height of 10 ft.
