Increasing use of ring bus type circuitry led to development of standardized metal-clad switchgear units for use in ring bus type substations with following advantages: feeder is supplied by two buses, only one circuit breaker required for each circuit, any breaker can be removed from its unit without disrupting continuity of service, etc.; overall bus differential protection is possible; ring bus and double-duplex schemes compared.
