Principles of operation and applications in present air transport services, of standard radio aids to air navigation; short-distance aids particularized are ADF (automatic direction finder), LF/MF 4-course radio range, VOR (VHF omnidirectional range), VHF marker beacons, UHF DME (distance-measuring equipment), and TACAN (tactical air navigation); for approach and landing zone, ILS (instrument-landing system) and GCA (ground-controlled approach); for long distances, decca (cw hyperbolic system), loran (pulse hyperbolic system), omega and consol ("sonne") systems.
