Description of gyroscopes and accelerometers suitable for navigational purposes; principles involved in inertial navigation round earth are explained; it is shown that pure inertial system is undamped, that introduction of damping leads to system errors, but that these can be eliminated by use of velocity measurement from Doppler system; advantages of combination of Doppler and inertial systems; comparison of individual and combined systems.
