Three supersonic transport proposals conceived by Boeing, Lockheed, and North American Aviation, respectively, all of which are very different in general configuration and encompass wide range of tradeoffs, are under technical evaluation by Federal Aviation Agency (FAA); task of evaluation team and government participation in financing of project; problem areas, technical and economic tradeoffs that will enter into final design of airframe, engine, and major subsystems, are summarized.
