Feasibility study of several new proposed propulsion concepts for sustained hypersonic propulsion using terrestrial atmosphere; processes are evaluated in light of their energy production and flight energy requirements; energy released by stationary and moving detonation waves is computed and compared with propulsion requirements; proposed hypersonic airbreathing propulsion system applications, including electrical augmentation, are evaluated; electromagnetic fuel injection afterburner combined with fuel-lean standing wave detonation process appears most promising; exploratory experiments.
