American Airlines' program for reduced jet minimums is based upon use of autopilot, in automatic coupled approach mode, monitored by Captain and First Officer; 3 phases of all-weather program; requirements and definitions for lower landing minimums, applicable to 4-engine jets, associated economics, methods to meet requirements, and results of existing program at American Airlines; emphasis is on coupled approaches and requirements to accomplish phase II (minimum weather condition of 100 ft ceiling and/or visibility of 1300 ft).
