History of development of wheel suspension with particular reference to separate suspension of front wheels, introduced to alleviate wheel shimmy; for rear wheels, use of rigid driving axles is standard; examples of various design solutions, namely, BMW 326, (Bayrische Motoren Werke), Wanderer W 23, Hotchkiss Opel Rekord and Opel Kadett, and 4-link suspension by General Motors.
