Optimal control of nonlinear system subject to equality and inequality constraints and having its initial and terminal state specified, is considered; Kuhn-Tucker necessary conditions for local optimum are applied to corresponding discretized problem; set of control vectors that maximize Hamiltonian is obtained iteratively by steepest ascent method; as example, minimum propellant expenditure of rocket between two stations in gravitational space in given time has been chosen, control vector being thrust acceleration vector of rocket; optimal trajectory has also been computed by direct method.
