Experimental investigation was conducted to determine containment characteristics of radial-inflow vortexes for potential application to vortex-stabilized nuclear light bulb engine; effects on containment of changes in following were investigated -- geometry of simulated-fuel injection configurations, number of thruflow ports used, radial Reynolds number (measure of amount of flow withdrawn through thru-flow ports) and corresponding amount of bypass flow, and molecular weight of simulated fuel.
