Railroad Transport System (RTS) is specially designed system used in support of NERVA rocket engine program at NRDS; to qualify system for operational use, extensive program was conducted that included -- development of life-support system, closed-circuit TV system, radiation monitoring system, "real-time" operational and emergency recovery techniques utilizing simulated engine test stand for remote installation and removal of weighted mockup engine, manipulator system, and development and qualification of RTS operations personnel.
