Particularly useful satellite motion is one where same face of satellite always points toward earth; dynamics of flexible earth-pointing satellite consisting of two unsymmetrical, but identical, rigid bodies, connected by massless tether as mass center of assembly moves in circular orbit, is studied; description of dynamical system and governing differential equations for all motions of system; procedure for predicting instability (in Lyapunov sense) of earth-pointing configuration is developed; it is established that elastic and damping properties of tether are immaterial, while tether length and tethering geometry at end bodies are of principal importance.
