Entire spectrum of propulsion pumps ranging from standard propeller and shrouded propellers to pumpjets in restricted sense of term; after discussing reasons for departing from standard marine propeller, primary attention is given to classification and design of propulsion pumps on basis of similarity considerations, relating dimensionless parameters applying specifically to propulsors to corresponding parameters in pump field such as specific speed or suction specific speed; application of these principles is illustrated by two examples.
