Note on freight carrier named Nautilus, designed by Y.Plenkin at Nikolayev Shipbuilding Institute; vessel will sail as submarine until it reaches sheltered waters; there it will open up like clamshell, and thus divided into two shallow-draft components, will be able to sail into any existing port; he suggests average 80,000-ton surface ship developing speed of 40 knots needs 322,000 hp; submarine of equal size would require only 253,000 hp; concept is considered to possibly provide solution to one major problem of giant super tankers and cargo vessels now on ways or planned, which have draft too great to permit them to enter most ports.
