With properly laid-out propeller, more satisfactory service with increased reliability and reduced maintenance costs; diesel and steam effects can be somewhat different; attention is drawn to propeller layout especially in view of service results obtained with recent bulk carriers and tankers of large tonnage; some specific references are made to diesel installations; aspects considered are propeller working range, recommended propeller design considerations, trial requirements, increase of resistance in service, engine power for use in propeller design, propeller correction, and variable pitch propellers.
