Paper describes guidance star tracker capable of locating and tracking preselected target star within 8° field of view; system employs no moving mechanisms and achieves high pointing accuracy because of methods of scanning and error signal determination which are used; descriptions of star-tracker optical and electronic systems and analytical determination of system performance are presented; comparisons of theoretical and measured performance characteristics are also presented and are in close agreement.
