Review of Hughes criteria for acceptance of space materials; because of extensive use of thermal control surfaces and optical parts, no condensable materials could be tolerated on Surveyor; very restrictive testing was initiated to remove any possible contaminants from being placed on board spacecraft; extensive compilation is presented of materials found suitable for use in following areas -- adhesives, encapsulants, rubbers, thermal control surfaces, nonmetallic structures, thermal conductivity aids, and tapes.
