Funds committed to testing on typical spacecraft program are large percentage of total program costs; optimal approach to use of these dollars involves deliberate " test to find defects" philosophy as opposed to "test to pass" philosophy; lessons learned constitute significant element of any test planning activity geared to implement program aimed at finding defects; presented are some selected lessons learned from analysis of five spacecraft programs.
