Ship built by Bath Iron Works for American Export Isbrandtsen Lines (AEIL) Transatlantic service has capacity of 928, 20-ft containers; hold cellular structure based on 40-ft modules but suitable for 20-ft units or mixed stow of both types; length oa 610 ft, beam molded 78 ft, depth molded 54 ft 6 in., maximum draft 31 ft 7 1/8 in. and dw 16,343 tons for displacement of 26,670 tons; 17,500 shp is supplied from General Electric H.P. and L.P. turbines to provide service speed in excess of 20 knots.
