Hydrodynamic theory of traffic flow along long crowded highways is based on concept of flow of hypothetical "traffic fluid" that satisfies equation of continuity and "equation of state"; simple method is presented for deriving these equations; equations appear to explain certain experimental observations; wave propagation of traffic disturbances in cases where flow rate of traffic flow is function of density and variation of density with respect to space and time is also studied.
