Rode Zee, 1311 gross tonnage vessel is specially designed for towing heavy objects over long distances and to render assistance to large vessels in distress; vessel has been commissioned by Rotterdam owners, L.Smit and Co Internationale Sleepdienst, and was built by NV Scheepswerf en Machinenfabriek 'De Merwede'; controllable-pitch propeller, driven by two Werkspoor TM410 diesel engines, provides full output when towing as well as when running free; feature is excellent visibility from bridge and winch control room; overall length of vessel is 68.5 m and extreme breadth 12.1 m. design draft being 5.5 m.
