Results of comparative performance of two recently developed wave height sensors, namely, radar altimeter and sonic wave height sensor, are presented; data were obtained using both sensors simultaneously when on ship in open sea; effects of sensor package stabilization, noise, resolution, etc, on useful characteristics of output signal are discussed; comparisons of performance of each of these systems is also presented; description of use of wave measuring system on aircraft carrier is presented.
