It is suggested that in last decade major development in cross channel vessels has taken place in passenger and vehicle type, and that nearly all new passenger ferries have at least some provision for carriage of cars; attention is given to terminals, ferry loading arrangements, speed at sea and time in port, machinery selection, designing to carry all types of vehicles, and arrangements for taking on stores; comment is made on ferry service in relation to proposed channel tunnel (England-France).
