Seaway Queen and Seaway King were built for Union Steam Ship Co of New Zealand Ltd by Broken Hill Pty Co at Whyalla, South Australia, and are for express cargo services between Australian mainland and Tasmania; ships are of raised quarter deck design, 370 ft in length oa, of 2961 gross tons and 3250 tons dwc; two 8-cyl Mirrlees-National Monarch turbocharged engines are each rated to develop 3500 bhp at 300 rpm for speed of 16 1/2 knots.
