Use of heavy fuel in both slow running and high speed diesel engines and relation to engine wear are discussed; specifications of lubricating oils are considered; research on lubricants is cited, and notes are included on results of trials on 5400 hp at 150 rpm engine and on B and W 6000 bhp at 115 rpm and MAN 8100 bhp at 115 rpm units. Extracts from Treatise based on investigations at Soc Antar Petroles de l'Atlantique.
