Problem of charge air cooling in aircraft discussed and it is shown that it is complicated by necessity for achieving cooling unit of low weight and small volume; method of obtaining low cooler weight by using high heat transfer known to exist in region adjacent to leading edge of surface is proposed and details given of experiments carried out to exploit its possibilities.
