Gear composed of special nylon named Unolyn, which stretches under load to several times its original length, absorbing energy without building up substantial recoil; spike driven into ground anchors one end of Unolyn to ground; other end is attached to aircraft; as airplane proceeds beyond spike, webbing is stretched and its retarding force decelerates airplane to stop in short distance.
