22,000-ton, solid trough type drydock, 654 ft long, and 100 ft wide inside wing walls, built by Bethlehem Steel Co in 1943; dock was launched in three sections; it has 16 water tight compartments which can be filled or emptied individually so ships of different sizes can be hauled; dock is self-docking in that end sections can be detached and used to raise center section, and center section used to dock end sections.
