Note on electrification of Newport-Shildon mineral line of North Eastern Ry, completed in 1915; d-c 1500-v overhead system was used; locomotives were carried on two 4-wheel trucks, articulated together, with each axle driven by totally enclosed motor, developing 275 hp at 20 mph; as traffic no longer justified expenditure necessary to renew overhead conductors, in 1935 line reverted to steam traction, and electric equipment was removed.
