In 1941 L. E. BAYNES put forward proposal that armored fighting vehicle such as 8 1/2-ton tank, could acquire airborne properties by attachment of "all wing" to top of it, thus giving it same characteristics as towed freight glider; one-third scale flying model was constructed of full size project to prove its aerodynamic and control characteristics; although air tests proved that tailless monoplane with flaps was practical proposition, full size tank carrying wing was not developed.
