Used as armed merchant cruiser for 2-yr, vessel was obtained by Admiralty in 1942 and after modifications was converted to aircraft carrier HMS Pretoria Castle; at end of War vessel was purchased by Union Castle Line, reconverted to mail and passenger vessel by builders, Harland and Wolff, and renamed "Warwick Castle"; propelled by Harland-B and W twin screw Diesel engines; note on reconversion of ship.
