Increased use of wooden ties on tropical railways made from locally grown timbers has been retarded by problem of preventing termite damage; note on plant established at Zungeru on Nigerian Railway to treat hardwoods from Southern Provinces; timber is impregnated thoroughly with hot creosote under pressure.
