Some half dozen applications for rockets as auxiliary power are cited which could make difference between safe landing and crack-up in commercial air travel today; author foresees passenger travel in 2500-mph rocket powered space ships with little discomfort; problems engineers must overcome before achieving this goal are outlined; trends in rocket fuels and outlook for atomic powered rockets are discussed.
