Southern Railroad has constructed plate fulcrum wheel load scales at three points on system for checking and adjusting weight distribution of locomotives; scales, which weigh four axles at one time, detect irregularities in weight distribution among various wheels; they are designed to insure maximum locomotive efficiency with fewer mechanical repairs, while at same time eliminating damage to equipment, track and bridge structures which may be caused by out-of-balance conditions.
