Semiquantitative examination of chief factors affecting both transmission of low frequency radiation from aircraft to submarine and return of this energy to aircraft by scattering; general expression derived for returning field strength; it is indicated that, even under most favorable conditions, amount of energy returned is below level of detectability, if submarine is submerged more than 10 ft.
