Experiences of NY Central System with "Pacemaker" box cars; all cars are equipped with steel wheels, 5 1/2-in. by 10-in. journals, and friction bearings; factors which favorably affect performance of cars which have produced record of 42,000,000 car-miles without a hot box; recommendations submitted, which, should accomplish comparable results on all interchange freight cars and still use solid type of bearing.
