Busmen must learn several new terms and techniques as managements have to take more scientific view of industry's activities; one of these is discounting of cash flows technique (DCF), accepted in transport world outside bus industry; one of frequent decisions calls for choice between capital expenditure involved in buying new buses now which will give lower operating costs later on, as opposed to not replacing vehicles yet and accepting higher operating costs until one does replace them; example shows application of DCF technique which has been used in assessing various major transport projects, including London Transport's Victoria Line and London-Birmingham Motorway.
