Lowbridge double-decker, metal-framed bodywork, underfloor-engined single-decker, high-capacity front-entrance double decker, chassisless construction and air suspension are examples of design concepts influencing bus and coach operation; in assessment of future bus design policy, changing service conditions must be considered; development of chassisless bus and its advantages; trends in design details relating to reclining seats in coaches, front suspension and front-end braking; it is concluded that greatest scope for body design lies with rear-engined layout.
