Launched from Tyne Shipyard of Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson, ship is first of two sisters to be built for British and Commonwealth by Swan Hunter Group; length oa 597 ft 6 in., breadth molded 77 ft 3 in., depth to upper deck 46 ft 2 in., draft loaded 31 ft, dw 10,200 tons, insulated cargo capacity 328,600 cu ft and dry cargo capacity 210, 340 cu ft; two turbocharged 8-cyl Wallsend-Sulzer engines develop aggregate of 34,700 bhp at 119 rpm.
