Tactical trucks must travel where commercial trucks are immobilized by adverse terrain conditions, be able to withstand misuse, abuse, and neglect, yet still perform their mission; mobility studies and tire developments indicated greater mobility for truck of same load carrying capacity by using eight equally loaded wheels with single tires having large tread; swimming capability with payload requirement is met by trucks, 2-1/2 ton 8×8 XM410E1 and 5-ton 8 ×8 XM656 which are designed for minimum maintenance by using very durable components, sealed units and bearings having lifelong lubrication.
