Paper shows examples of methods by which standardization in European manufacture of heavy commercial vehicles has been achieved, with reference to buses and trucks, produced by Kloeckner-Humboldt-Deutz A G; components comprise large pressings for driver's cabs and bus bodies, and crankcases for engines; standardization of vehicle diesel engine construction series in case of 8-cyl engine is effected to extent of 15% by most important subsuppliers themselves; groups of subsuppliers involved concern electrical equipment, injection system, filter units for fuel, intake air, and lubrication oil, and air compressor unit.
