Higher armature peripheral speeds, better insulation, and improved ventilation of railway motors, together with rapid development of Diesel electric equipment for railroads, have made necessary revision of AIEE Standards for Railway Motors; new standards adopted as "American Tentative Standards" pending further experience with new types of machinery covered by them.
