Confronted with problem of moving long sections of thermit welded rails into position in track, over distances up to 1 mi from point of welding, Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Lines, New York, developed method of "sledding" rails over exsiting track, employing tie plated ties at intervals of 40 to 50 ft for sleds, and electric locomotive for hauling power; how work was carried out.
