Olna was built for Royal Fleet Auxiliary by Hawthorn Leslie (Shipbuilders) Ltd; primary task of this class is to provide replenishment of liquid stores to warships at sea, while steaming at high speed when necessary; up to three ships can be refueled simultaneously, and diesel, aviation and heavy fuel can be passed at same time; principal dimensions are 648 ft length oa, 84 ft beam and 34 ft loaded draft, for dw of about 21,000 tons; standard set of Pametrada PSF/D/M30 turbines with double reduction dual tandem articulated gearing of type PSG/25/110 is installed.
