120-acre aircraft engine factory of Ford Motor Co, Manchester, was devoted solely to production of Merlin types; Ford engineers from Dagenham works were responsible for planning of production, and review of some of their more interesting developments is given; gaging equipment; machine shops; negative rake milling; special purpose machines; nut slitting; thread generating; heat treatment; rotary hearth furnace; etc.
